BIO: SHANDA CHIUMENTO
Raised in the enchanting backdrop of St. Thomas, Shanda's art reflects the colorful tapestry of the Caribbean paradise that nurtured her creative spirit. Shanda's quest for artistic excellence led her to Boston University, where she earned a B.A.
in Graphic Design and Art History. Guided by Yale professors trained by design icon Paul Rand,
she refined her skills. Venturing further, Shanda immersed herself in the rich artistic milieu of Venice at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica, learning from globally renowned artists. Shanda's role as an educator, transcended the confines of her studio, teaching traditional oil painting at the University in
St. Thomas was not just a job; it was a way to give back to the community that shaped her,
imparting her passion and nurturing the next generation of Caribbean artists.
Shanda Chiumento's journey from a budding artist in St. Thomas to the creator of Sugar Apple Design is a testament to her talent, dedication, and love for her Caribbean home. Each piece in her collection is a unique fusion of art, nature, and sustainability—a genuine reflection of her life's journey and inspirations. Transitioning from Caribbean motif printmaking to oil painting, Shanda initially explored still life, architecture, and landscape subjects. However, her current artistic focus centers on the intricate relationship between animals and our environment.
